Training & Mentoring
Training and mentoring are essential for personal and professional growth. Training focuses on building specific skills through structured learning, while mentoring provides guidance, support, and advice based on experience. Together, they foster a nurturing environment where individuals can enhance their abilities, gain confidence, and develop problem-solving skills. Through this process, mentees benefit from both practical knowledge and the mentor's wisdom, promoting continuous improvement and career advancement. Effective mentoring also strengthens relationships and creates a collaborative culture.
Self Sustenance
Self-sustenance refers to the ability of an individual, community, or system to independently maintain and fulfill its needs without relying on external support. It involves developing resources, skills, and strategies to meet essential requirements such as food, shelter, and energy. In a broader sense, self-sustenance fosters resilience, reduces dependency, and promotes long-term sustainability by encouraging the responsible use of resources and proactive problem-solving. This concept is key to personal empowerment and sustainable living, contributing to both individual well-being and environmental balance.

A small hostel was begun in 2002 for poor children from remote villages. To benefit the many school dropouts in the region, a vocational training institute was started at Thecho, a Kathmandu suburb situated 7 km from the city center. What began in 2001 as a modest computer center has today grown into a full-fledged Technical Training Institute that offers Basic Computer Application, Computer Graphics, Tally Accounting, Computer Hardware, Building Electrician, Industrial Electrician, Mobile Repairing, Tailoring and Fashion, Apparel and Life-Style Design, housed in a spacious building equipped with modern facilities. NDBS has branched out its activities across the country with 9 centres, where variety of educational and vocational programme is conducted. It caters to 7 districts benefiting about ten thousands (10,000) people especially the youth. The origin of Development desk took place in 2007. The need of networking with the worldwide mission offices was felt. With the words of Fr. Provincial, the first person assigned to shoulder the responsibility was Fr. Benjamin Pampackal, the In-Charge of DB Thecho Mission. Afterwards Fr. Jaison Nedumkallel, Fr. Jijo John took up the responsibility as the successors of Fr. Benjamin. In 2018, Fr. Augusty Pulickal was given the charge of the Director of the Development Desk. It was at this time, that the desk, which is part of the Nepal Don Bosco Society was named DB SHARE-N. (Don Bosco Sharing Hands Reaching out to Everyone in Nepal). 01 The area that the desk took care of initially was that of sponsorship only. Keeping in touch with the Benefactors who supported the children/students of the neighbouhood was the task dealt with initially. Contact with the Sponsors who supported the students/children of the nighbourhood with education support was really appreciated. 02 Gradually networking with the other donor agencies took place. It was mostly for the purpose of getting help for our own centres in Nepal. 03 It was during the earthquake of 2015, that the Development Desk sprung into more social action. 04 More Salesian Mission offices and other donor agencies were in kept in touch with, like the Caritas, Individual benefactors etc. 05 A website although as part of the institute was opened, a new site specifically for the purpose of the Desk was initiated in April 2023.
